Man Utd after Henry

Rumours have surfaced on and off for the past month that the unsettled Frenchman is due to head back to the Premier League, and today they hit fever pitch as Ferguson refused to issue a denial.

He told The Sun when asked about Henry, "I can't answer the question because I don't have the right answer.

"There is a name every day.

"It is possible I will sign someone this week. We are trying and we are looking at one or two options.

"Hopefully we will get something done."

Ferguson is eager to land at least one new forward as injuries and illnesses take their toll on his depleted front line. Henry, a former Arsenal hero, may fit the bill.

"It has been pressing since the end of last season," he admitted of his lack of squad depth up front.

"We like to operate with four strikers and we have not been able to do that."

Henry played only a secondary role last season for Barcelona in what was his first year in Catalunya. Should United present a fine offer then the club hierarchy may let him go, especially as Samuel Eto'o seems likely to remain at the club.
